Modern consumer units/distribution boards are inexpensive, extremely safe and easy to manage. Since 2008 it has been necessary to use RCDs on many circuits. Such devices protect against electric shock in the event of a fault. Sometimes, however, this can lead to nuisance tripping but the most recent RCBOs have RCD and short circuit protection on each circuit to ensure that, in the event of a fault, only the circuit containing the fault is tripped.
